The Smell of Victory

So we went with some friends to the Frisco Rough Riders game (minor league team). Good times for sure. We've gone to several games with them before and always have a good time. They have a little boy who is a couple months older than Nicholas so they get to play and socialize during the game. Anyway so this game we were standing outside near the entry gates when this girl came up to us asking how old our babies were. We told her and she got all excited and asked if we would be a part of their Diaper Derby. They needed one more baby to make 3 and they needed to crawl. I left the decision up to our friend b/c they were her tickets. But Ryan, her baby was just getting into walking and was not going to crawl anywhere if he didn't have to. So the girl asked us and Nicholas is still crawling most of the time so we said sure why not.

So in between one of the innings we had to go down to some ally and wait for them to roll out the "racing stripes". He was against 2 girlies. Keith and I gave him a pep talk before the match, so he was totally pumped. Keith was really smart in saying that he would be the releaser and I would be the catcher since he is totally a momma's boy through and through. Proved to be the edge we needed.

On your mark, get set....GO!!!!!

And they're off. Nick's in the lead....

He's 1/2 way there burning up the carpet. If you look in the background you can see Nick on the megatron. Heheheh.

But then we got side tracked with all the commotion of everyone yelling in the stands. It was pretty funny. The girly on his right caught up, I thought he was going to lose. Tension was high....

He lost focus there for a second but shook it off and was back on track.

But we lost that focus again at the finish line. He was more interested in the "finish line tape". Had to touch it and tried to taste it.

Finally though after losing interest int he tape he decided to cross it to come see me after much wearing of the nerves...ha. And the winner is......NICHOLAS! WOOO!!!!! FYI (We're not really that hard core).

So concludes the Victory of Nicholas and his winnings of the T-shirt that says "The Smell of Victory Diaper Derby"

These boots are made for walkin....

Well last week we were walking around pushing the cart. He's been wanting to walk around with someone holding his hands. We do laps every night in the kitchen and dinning room. Big fun. As you can see he gets VERY angry when the cart gets "stuck" anywhere.

But then.....Sunday afternoon Keith and I were sitting on the couch watching Olympics and Nicholas was standing at the couch and we threw a pillow on the floor. He LOVES loving on pillows and as soon as he saw this he turned around, let go of the couch and took two steps and slowly sat down. Keith and I just looked at either other and started laughing. Nick's first steps to independence, and any down time for mommy and daddy. Here are the first steps caught on video. Just a quick clip.

Summer Vacation

Well we went all over Texas for our vacation this summer. We started out heading to Austin to see Nanna. We only spent 2 nights every place we went. Sad, but it was good times had by all minus a few mishaps. Starting in Austin I found what looked to be a nail in our tire. So knowing we were driving 1200 miles that week we decided to take the tire in to get fixed. Well luckily for us is was just a small tack or something and didn't puncture the tire. So after Austin we hit Port Aransas for some beach time. unfortunately Hurricane Dolly decided to rain on our parade. Literally. I actually thought we were not going to get ANY beach time but it held out for the one day we were there. We actually got our beach cut a little short because they were talking about closing down the bridge into Corpus. Don't want to get stuck so we left around 6am. Not fun. We do have a TON of pictures though so enjoy.

So here we are getting ready for our first beach experience.

OCEAN.... doesn't he look THRILLED?

Here come the waves.

We didn't stay long at the beach becuase of the storm coming in the seaweed was terrible and we got sand blasted on shore because the winds were so high. That was not fun. I lost a towel because so much sand was blowing it got covered.
So we ended up spending the day at the pool instead. Lame I know, we drive 8 hours to go to the beach and hang out at the pool. At least they had a fun waterfall, Nick loved that and didn't get sand in places where the sun don't shine.

Pictures with mommy at the beach. This was actually from our balcony of the condo, really nice view.
Pictures with daddy from the balcony, aren't they handsome?
After the beach we headed to Bandera, just outside of San Antonio. We went to Keith's grandma's ranch house that he spent alot of time at as a child. We hung out with Maw-Maw, Aunt Pete, and Perry and Sheri + family. Here is a picture with Great Grandma:

30 something man climbing trees to ride a "TROLLY"....humm.... AFLAC....

Finally after Bandera we went to the Duderstadt Family Reunion in Utopia. This was at Keith's dad and step mom's land. It was really pretty out there. Lots of trees, land and nothing else. I could actually see the stars. It was hot though, but it was good to get Nicholas to meet alot of his Great Aunts and Uncles for the first time.
Here are some fun pictures from those 2 days.

OMG he LOVED this swing. Thanks Nanny for the fun times!

Dump truck time. Probably one of the only times in his life that he will fit in the back of a toy dump truck. Now if you look REALLY close you'll see too that his shirt has.....yep, dump trucks on it. Ironic and def. not planned out.

Posing with Grandpa
Cooling off in the pool. It was a bit hot out

Finally after a long week of lots of driving we got home and had Joni, Al and Taylor, our friends from MN stop by for a night over on their way back home after visiting Austin. Here are the betrothed, Nicholas and Taylor. One day will be married. Ha.
